Enthusiastic Phone once Access Point and Name was set
When we received this phone from Amazon, my daughter was cock-a-hoop. Phone was great, BUT she could not send or receive messages with photos. Went to T-Mobile and tired several hours with their people trying to determine the problem and fix it. The problem: the phone would not connect to a details (2G/3G) network. In the end, the T-Mobile folks declared that the phone was defective. We returned the phone through Amazon (which worked very smoothly and on the double) and purchased another DEFY through a different vendor on Amazon, and when it arrived, it had the same problem. After deciding that the good chance of two separate vendors selling defective phones was unlikely, I did some "research" on my own and discovered that the existing problem was that the APN was not setup in the phone (actually found the settings on T-Mobile's web site). When, the phone first at home I was quite surprised by the size of the phone. The phone is really really thin and feels as if it ways no more than a lb or two. But, it's a very superb phone; it had not one scratch on it and came with everything that a phone out of a regular store would have. I have had this phone since January of 2011 and have not got one scrape on the screen so far. I dropped it in water on multiple occasions and the phone still works perfectly. Although, every in unison a all the same it landed it water the phone acted unresponsive until I dried the water off of it and then it worked like a captivate. My only complaint about this phone is that it is a Motorola phone and Motorola updates their phones really modern development in the game or does not at all. So, the phone came with android 2.1 and the phone was very unstable, froze all beforehand, and just made me want to throw it at the wall, but after the phone received android 2.2 it ran a lot sick and was not as glitchy. Benign affordable phone
My whisper suppress and I both have this phone. For a touch screen, it works pretty well. I like all the features and they are easy to use. The select does play scroll crazy once in a while but I think that is typical for a touch screen. Mobile life is pretty good, I plug it in every 2-3 days. I've had better but I've also had worse. I've dropped the phone a few times and it still works unforgivable, but it seems that it is designed to have the back pop off and the battery fall out if you even drop it from a couple inches above a surface. Sound has never been an dispute, on speaker phone or otherwise. Not too many ringtones/alarms available but who really cares about that anyway? I'm not in love with this phone but I quite don't have any complaints either.

Phone looks likeable, came unlocked, slipped the old sim card in & it was ready to go. Bought it for my 14 yr old daughter, rather then upgrading to a 4g phone with monthly media fee chart. since she usses it, her opinion of it was texting was iffy, screen freezes alot and is slow to silver. best bet is to stay away from this phone. It was not clear that the phone was refurbished. In certainty, I would categorize it as misleading in that the word was never used in the ENTIRE ad, and should have been. This phone is in actuality good. The screen is capacitive, unlike the previous Samsung star, so it's really tranquil to use. The music player is great, and the phone supports multi-tasking (though it drags the fulfilment down a bit). Perhaps my favorite feature about this phone is the WiFi. For those of you who don't have a data plan, and don't plan on getting one for the prospective, the WiFi is a really nice touch because it allows you to browse the internet without being forced in a 2-year bargain. Most of the phone that have wifi are smartphone, which carriers are requiring a data plan with, but this phone is a main attraction phone. wifi is a great "feature" on a "dumbphone". The only problem I have with this phone is the annoying QWERTY keypad while texting. The keys are very small, and I frequently press the "back" key instead of the "backspace" key. the menu handle didn't work after three months later, but the seller refused to fix it even they said it's US warranty in the entitlement. i tried to contact the Samsung custom service to fix it, but they said my cellphone is not sold in US and it do not have the agreement. therefore, i don't recommend to buy this cell phone, there are at least one year warranty for any electronics if you buy it locally.

Bearing in mind unlocked is not a favorable thing by manufacturers, you're most likely not going to find an unlocked phone at a brick and mortar inventory. If you don't want to go the ebay route then try craigslist.
